As a twelve year old I visited Uncle Phil, Aunty Rena and the family at Cape Willoughby on Kangaroo Island. One night my uncle, along with a mate of his took me and cousin Kevin crabbing. In the early dusk light the solid and safe world that this suburban boy had always known melted away into a nebulous and mysterious realm full of drifting shadows and potential danger. We caught crabs and ate them by firelight on the beach whilst gazing at the myriad stars overhead. Mind officially blown !

In the glowing amber dusk where the mouth meets the sea,
Hauling in our nets, wading through the shallows,
Trying not to step on the rays,

Can you hear the silver gulls as they call us,
Stoke the fire up we'll cook the crabs on the beach,
